Tree planting is a popular way to take action for the environment.
However, it’s not as easy as it sounds.
Here are 5️⃣ basic rules for getting it right. #GenerationRestoration

As the world's leading environmental authority, UNEP serves as the secretariat for a number of entities including multilateral environmental agreements, sometimes referred to as treaties or conventions.

❌ Myth: A few degrees of global warming are not a big deal.
✅ Fact: Every bit of global warming worsens the impacts on people and the planet.

#ClimateCrisis misinformation is a risk to everyone.

Help spread credible information on the climate crisis.

Thanks to a global phaseout of ozone-depleting chemicals outlined in the Montreal Protocol, the ozone layer is on track to recover within four decades.

Ozone action has set a precedent for climate action and is expected to avoid 0.5°C of warming by 2100.

The Minamata Convention on Mercury is a global treaty that aims to protect human health and the environment from mercury's harmful effects. Over the years, @minamataconvention has worked to #MakeMercuryHistory by:

✅ Implementing a ban on new mercury mines
✅ Phasing out of existing ones
✅ Phasing-out and phasing-down of mercury use in a number of products and processes, and more.

Forests, which cover 30%of the planet surface, play a vital role for the survival and the well-being of the 7 billions inhabitants of the planet and biodiversity protection. They are a source of food, medication and clean water.

Rising global temperatures have dramatically increased the risk of irreversible loss of marine and coastal ecosystems. Widespread changes have been observed, including damage to coral reefs and mangroves that support ocean life.

If average global temperatures increased by 2°C, reefs would almost completely disappear, which would be catastrophic for people and the planet.

The good news is that all of us can take #ClimateAction to help #SaveOurOcean:

🍴 Avoid single-use plastics and ocean-harming products.
🏖️ Participate in beach clean-ups.
🐟 Only eat seafood from sustainable fisheries.
📢 Help spread the word!
