Migratory birds need water and healthy habitats for their life cycle, but these ecosystems are endangered.
Ahead of #WorldMigratoryBirdDay on 13 May, find out how you can raise awareness of the importance of water for migratory birds via @worldmigratorybirdday.

We are experiencing a dangerous decline in nature.
But there is a glimmer of hope: Africa’s Great Green Wall is on a mission to bring back nature and jobs in a troubled region. 🌿
As the largest living structure on the planet, the Great Green Wall is an ambitious initiative to restore the continent’s degraded farmlands, and help families cope with the impacts of the #ClimateCrisis.

Our planet is choking on plastic.
Every minute the equivalent of 1 garbage truck of plastic is dumped into the ocean. Unlike other materials, plastic does not biodegrade. This means by 2050, there could be more plastic than fish in the ocean.
Change starts with you! You can make a difference by
🎒 bringing your own shopping bag
🧃 avoiding single-use plastics
🏖️ participating in beach clean-ups
… and much more!

Forests give us clean air, water, food, medicine, energy and countless products.

Plastic pollution could reduce by 80% by 2040 if governments & companies make policy & market shifts.
Plastic waste is polluting ecosystems, creating risks for human health and destabilizing the climate. The good news is that economically viable solutions exist to reduce plastic waste sustainably.
The world can save US $4.5 trillion by 2040 on total costs if it shifts away from single-use plastics towards a circular economy.

Ending plastic pollution needs everyone.
Governments and local authorities can incentivize sustainable business practices and invest in better waste management infrastructure.
Business can design out production of harmful plastics and offer consumers sustainable alternative through innovative solutions.
Individuals and communities can use your voice and choice to give visibility to those working for solutions and call out those that need to do better.

Around the world,
80% of amphibian species,
75% of bird species,
and 68% of mammal species
call forests their home.
Forests are vital for our biodiversity’s survival. Yet, they’re are at risk due to human activity. The numbers are alarming – since 1990, some 420 million hectares of forest have been lost through conversion to other land uses. While the rate of deforestation has decreased in the past years, around 10 million hectares are still being lost each year.

New season, new styles, buy more, buy cheap, throw away – ‘fast fashion’ is polluting the environment & air we breathe.
Known for its quick turnover, high volume and cheap prices, the fast fashion industry significantly contributes to the triple planetary crisis. Yet, the global consumer is buying more clothes and wearing them for less time than ever before, discarding garments as fast as trends shift.

From towering forests to the depths of the sea,
Countless species reside, each vital to keep.
But human actions have taken a toll,
Once-thriving habitats, degrading and frail.
#BuildBackBiodiversity, our duty, our mission,
Revive nature, a critical ambition.

Every fraction of a degree matters.
Nature has warned us through deadly floods, storms and raging fires -
our planet is fast approaching tipping points with irreversible consequences.

#AfricaDay is an occasion for Africa to take pride in its achievements!

Did you know that Africa
-is home to 1/4 of the planet’s mammal species
-holds some 30% of the world’s mineral reserves
-leads #GenerationRestoration initiative such as the Great Green Wall

Recycling alone is not enough to #BeatPlasticPollution.
Creating a circular economy for plastic is critical to tackling the triple planetary crisis and improving lives for everyone, everywhere.
Join in this #WorldEnviromentDay and demand global solutions to end plastic pollution.

tobacco is poisoning our planet.
Every year, the industry costs the world more than 8 million human lives, 600 million trees, 200 000 hectares of land & 22 billion tonnes of water.

But although the rain levels were “very unusual”, a new study finds that climate change has not made high rainfall in this region at this time of year more likely to occur, or increased its intensity.

Geneva, 17 May 2023 (WMO) – Global temperatures are likely to surge to record levels in the next five years, fuelled by heat-trapping greenhouse gases and a naturally occurring El Niño event, according to a new update issued by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO).
